Fitness | Nutrition & Meals

One of the questions I get asked most often is ~ What do you eat on a daily basis? So I thought it would be useful to put together a post explaining meal options for what works for me. Remember this is what works for me and I'm not qualified in nutrition but I thought it might be a useful post! I do follow the Tone It Up plan and I believe that eating little and often is the key to keeping your metabolism working and your blood sugar levels at a steady state, so no 3:30pm energy level slumps! Overall if you stay focused, eat healthy and exercise regularly you will find this easy to follow ~ remember, this is a lifestyle not a diet.

Hydrate ~ Hydration is key to maintaining a healthy metabolism and if you follow Tone It Up you will know that the girls suggest that you should drink half your body weight in water in ounces per day. So if you weigh 120lbs you should be drinking 60 ounces of water a day! Simple :) I always find that I have a lot more energy when I am properly hydrated so drink up ladies!

The Off-Limits List ~ This is what I try to keep to a minimum although I do admit I am a huge chocolate fan so sometimes it happens ;) No sugar, sweeteners, white bread or refined carbs. No soda including diet drinks (the sweeteners in them are worse than real sugar!). An occasional treat is fine but in moderation of course.

Breakfast ~ The most important meal of the day!

  • Overnight oats
  • Oatmeal/ porridge
  • Protein pancakes
  • Greek yoghurt with fruit
  • Wholemeal toast & peanut butter
  • Scrambled eggs

Snacks ~

  • Fruit. I love fruit don't let anyone tell you that it's bad for you. That's just nonesense.
  • Nakd bars
  • Rice crackers/ Rivita with peanut butter
  • Smoothies ~ home made are best
  • Greek yoghurt with dark chocolate chips ~ this is great to help curb those chocolate cravings
  • Raw vegetables & hummus

Lunch and Dinner ~

  • Mixed salad. I like to get the spinach, watercress and rocket mixed bags that you can get from Tesco and Morrisons and just add whatever I feel like to it. I always make sure I have a protein source and keep it lean, clean and green!
  • Wholemeal wraps
  • Turkey Chilli ~ this is great to prep in a big batch and then use throughout the week
  • Apricot & Shrimp
  • Soup ~ it's easy to make your own.
  • I basically try to keep things as lean, clean and green as I can. There are lots of recipes from Tone It Up and Lauren Conrad which are great! Preparation is key so make sure to plan your meals before you do the weekly food shop that way you know what you are having and when.

Other tips

  • Get your workout in before breakfast. I have found that this works best for me, I simply get up early and FIT IT IN! You'll find that you burn more calories throughout the day and it's a great wake up call.
  • If you hungry then eat! Fill up on lean protein and greens. Green Smoothies are great too!
  • Drink green tea ~ fat burning, metabolism boosting, full of antioxidants. What's not to love?
  • Almond milk or semi skimmed milk? While almond milk is the best option it can be expensive, semi skimmed milk works fine for me.
  • Make your own protein bars! Super easy to make and so yummy ~ this is a great recipe
I hope that this helps you. Remember what works for me might not work for you! What are your favourite healthy snack options? I'm always looking for new ideas!

    1. I found it so difficult to give up diet sodas but now if I drink one I just feel so gassy ~ which is good I guess as I won't drink them!
