Fitness // Half Marathon Training {Just Breathe}

Happy Sunday RUNday everyone. I'm still feeling great from my run today ~ pancakes made great running fuel! This week was tough as it was the first full five day week I have worked since November and it was a bit of a shock to the system. I really felt it on Thursday morning when I couldn't make the 5 mile distance which was scheduled so I stopped and switched to the cross trainer for some intervals. I still got a great workout in despite it not being the full 5 miles I was planning on.

I think when it comes to training quite often you really need to listen to your body and don't push it so far that it breaks. Be gentle, be patient. Only compare yourself to yourself ~ not to others. Look how far you have come because you have come so far already. We are all a work in progress.

So today although I was a little apprehensive about going for my run and Nike+ refusing to play my music at first didn't help, I stepped out the door and put one foot in front of the other. The first mile for me is always the hardest because I need time to settle into my pace and settle my breathing. I had my whole music library on shuffle and I had forgotten that I had put my YogaBabe meditations back on there so when one came on I was surprised but I went with it. Listening to a meditation while running may seem odd but it actually worked really well for me. Guided by Dana's voice I focused on my breathing, regulating my pace and saw the positivity. It might have been a dull and cloudy day but beauty is really all around us.

Great run, fast pace and feeling on top of the world! Bring on next week.

  3. I think running to meditation is a really good idea, it gives you something to focus on. I struggle with getting my breathing right so will give this a try. Such a great positive post. Xx
