Fitness | Bristol Race for Life 10k

Happy Tuesday! I wasn't going to blog today as I got back from horse riding a little bit later than usual but I decided to anyway! I'm in the writing mood :) Also we have just got ourselves a nice new blender and I LOVE it. I will be making lots of smoothies during the next few days! If you have any good smoothie recipes let me know.

As you will know if you follow me on Instagram, my 10k Race for Life was held on Saturday. It was a hot, hot day up on the Bristol Downs and to be honest not ideal weather for running. It was great for all the spectators though! I managed to set off pretty much at the front and I got completely caught up with the faster runners putting in an amazing 1 mile personal best time of 7 mins and 36 seconds. After that I knew I had to slow it down! About 2 or 3k into the race I was suffering from the heat, it was so hot that even the breeze was warm, but I kept on pushing even though my brain was telling me to stop. 5k into the race and half way they had cups of water, I grabbed one and tipped it straight over the top of my head! It was such a relief and cooled me right down. I kept on pushing as my body temperature rose back up and I was grateful for the shade at 7k under the trees. I was really pleased that I finished the race in 54 minutes and 20 seconds which given the heat I was really pleased with. I would have loved to get a personal best but it wasn't to be that day! I also finished within the top 25 or so :)

It was an amazing event, lots of fun, well organised and I will certainly do it again next year. I raised about £180 for Cancer Research thanks to some very generous donations ~ so THANK YOU!

  2. Well done that's amazing! I did my Race for Life back in June in 58 minutes and it wasn't anywhere near as hot as it has been so congratulations on such a fab time! x
