Fitness & Nutrition // Detoxing Explained

Hi girls & happy Wednesday. Today I wanted to post about something a little bit different. We are often bombarded with adverts and endorsements online and on TV about 'detoxing' and quick fix diets. My personal opinion is that expensive juices and tablets are not the way to detox and 'reset' your body, I don't think they are the answer. I believe that by being kind to your body and feeding it with the correct foods and nutrients can do more than you think! So if you have over indulged in a few Friday night cocktails or an extra slice of cake then read on. Sometimes we all need to recharge our bodies, loosen up our jeans and re-energise :) I have put together a few of my tips that I have discovered and used to refocus, lose that bloated feeling and help your skin to glow from the inside out.

Drink more water ~ Plain and simple but very effective. Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of water (at least) throughout the day. You can also try adding a couple of slices of lemon and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to your water in the morning. Trust me it works just be prepared to make more trips to the bathroom ;)

Sweat it out ~ Switch up your workout! Take it outdoors for a run and a quick HIIT workout. This will not only blast calories but sweat helps to release toxins from your body. Also try taking a yoga class once or twice a week or practise at home, twisting naturally helps to detox your internal organs and helps aid digestion. I have certainly noticed a difference since I have started to incorporate yoga into my workout routines more.

Eat right ~ Try a raw food cleanse spending a few days eating only raw vegetables, fruit and nuts. It may sound a bit extreme but it is a great way to kick start the cleansing process. Try starting your day with a Green Smoothie, one piece of fruit for a mid morning snack, a salad for lunch, a juice or smoothie in the afternoon and finish off with a lean, clean and green dinner!

Get more sleep ~ Head to bed early to allow your body to heal and catch up on much needed sleep. I know I am guilty of running on 5-6 hours sleep during the week and I do suffer from it. This is where I need to take my own advice! It also helps you to keep your waistline slim. I find that meditating, quieting the mind and reading a good book helps me drift off for a sound nights sleep.

Head to the spa ~ A massage does to body and mind a world of good so treat yourself! A deep tissue massage releases toxins from your body and helps to clear your mind of stresses and worry. I also find that using a foam roller at home is a great way to massage muscles and it's cheaper than a spa treatment!

Let me know if you try any of these tips for detoxing and share with me any tips you have for recharging your system.

  1. I have a friend who constantly says she's 'going on a detox' and it gets right on my wick. Like you said, it isn't a quick fix and while it could kick-start being healthy, it's just being used as another 'fad diet'. Very sensible tips, really enjoyed the post :) xx

  2. I agree. The body naturally detoxifies itself. You don't need pills and potions for it to do this. That's just designed to help you part with your money. As you say drink plenty of water (this helps the body the expels toxins) eat a healthy diet, moderate alcohol consumption and exercise..simple!
