Fitness | Update and Spinning

Happy Sunday! I am a little bit sad today as I am back to work tomorrow after 10 days holiday :( However I am going to make the most of the day and prepare for next week ~ plan my workouts and make a shopping list for tomorrow for meals to cook! I am having a go at a slow cooker veggie chilli today so I will make sure to blog the recipe later in the week.

Although I have been on holiday this week I made sure to get my workouts in. My family is very active and into fitness so I am lucky in that respect, I got in three runs and lots of horse riding! I combined this with toning from my Beach Babe DVD. My advice for working out while on holiday is to pack your running shoes! The pavement is free and you will get to explore and enjoy your surroundings at the same time.

As someone who is a fitness fanatic you probably think that I would regularly go to the gym or exercise classes all the time ~ not true! I am actually pretty shy in person and I get anxious whenever I have to go somewhere I don't know by myself or even call someone on the phone that I don't know. It is something I am trying to work through, so in January I decided to book my first spinning class. As someone who rarely sets foot into the gym this was a huge deal for me but in doing something out of my comfort zone I have discovered a new class which I love ~ SPINNING!

Spinning is a great workout and a huge calorie burner. If you don't know what spinning is it is an indoor workout on a stationary bike usually between 45 minutes or 1 hour long, it's a great class to do for people of all fitness levels as you push yourself and control your own resistance on the bike. You can burn anything from 500 to 1000 calories in one session just by pushing yourself! I find that it not only works your legs but your glutes and core as well.

I thought it might be useful to include some progress pictures. You can really see the difference in the side shot from January 1st on the left to today, middle and right. I also do a lot of toning exercises, one of my favourites is Tone It Up Mailbooty ~ fun workout and really burns!

So what are the benefits of spinning?

  • High calorie burn
  • Build muscle tone
  • Increased endurance through HIIT workouts
  • Low impact exercise ~ I run a lot which is stressful on my joints so for me spinning is a great way to mix it up, get in some great cardio but without the stress on my joints.
  • Go at your own pace ~ You control the resistance on your bike so if you are a complete beginner this is a great class to take.

Let me know if you love spinning and if you haven't tried it before why don't you take a class and let me know how you get on! Don't forget to follow me on instagram for daily workout and nutrition updates ~ @jaynebecca
