Happy Sunday! I hope that you have all had a good week. I know sometimes it is difficult getting back into the whole 'back to work' and 'back to school' routine. I struggled this week with getting back into the swing of things at work. As you will know I have started the Tone it Up Love Your Body challenge this week and you may have seen my crazy tweets so I thought that I would give you all an update of my first week.
I have noticed on twitter, instagram and even on my personal facebook that a lot of people have started a new fitness or 'diet' plan. Being the new year this is a popular choice for a 'resolution' after the over indulgence of Christmas. However, although this is a positive things I just wanted to chat about the difference between a 'diet' and a lifestyle change. I see so many people take on a new 'diet' plan lose weight and then put it back on a couple of months down the line. Why is this? Simply because these plans are usually too restrictive and once people slowly fall back into their old eating habits the weight creeps back on. Not good right? No. I don't believe in diets at all, I believe in a healthy lifestyle and moderation. This is why I love Tone It Up because this is what the girls work so hard to promote.
So if you are thinking about embarking on a 'diet' why not think of it differently, take a step back and think about what you really want to achieve. If you want to change your lifestyle for the better, be healthier and get more exercise then go ahead and make that change but in a sensible and sustainable manner. I'm always around to chat whether by email or twitter if you want any tips or motivation. I am 31 years old and never been above a UK size 10 (US size 6) because of the healthy lifestyle I lead! If you are embarking on a lifestyle change get in touch and let me know :)
Run, run run! I have really upped my running miles this week and I have been loving it. I am so proud that I have ran 11.40 miles this week! My luluemon order came in on Friday and I have been loving my new running top. I decided to get the Swiftly Tech Long Sleeve as the weather is a bit cooler at the moment and it really makes a difference! I love the thumb holes on the sleeves as they keep my hands warm ~ it's the little things right? I also picked up the Wunder Under Crops and they are honestly the most comfortable pair of workout crops I have ever owned. If you have the money to spend I would highly recommend any luluemon gear! So aside from my amazing new gear I have had a good week. I also increased my water intake and I feel so much better for it. I no longer get an afternoon energy slump in the office or headaches.
I have loved looking at everyone's updates on Instagram. If anyone is in need of some inspiration go and check out the hashtags #LoveYourBody and #100byVDay, some seriously inspirational ladies! What I love most about the Tone it Up community is how everyone supports each other and if you are having a bad day we are all there to lift each other up. You are never alone.
Let me know in the comments if you have started a new fitness plan this week and how your week has been!
I know everywhere is about dieting, needless to say this is what I am going to do too! It isn't about the first week though it is about getting past that 2 weeks, when most people fall! :( keep up the running though! I am hoping to train for a 5k as a non runner!
ReplyDeleteThere is a great 5k program that you can get online! Just build it up slow - you can do it! It's about making good habits as well when it comes to healthy eating I think :) You won't fail! xx
DeleteWow I'm impressed with your running - I just can't run, I just can't. But I agree with you "dieting" just wont really cut it, if I eat healthy (but plenty) and swim twice a week I'm fine, but if I don't exercise and "diet" I really struggle! Thanks for the link, I hadn't heard of Tone It Up but will check it out. x
ReplyDeleteThank you! Exactly! Sometimes I think people get confused between a 'diet' and healthy eating. I think in the long run healthy eating and being sensible is the safest way! Although I know things like Weight Watchers are great for some people too :)
DeleteI'm attempting to get healthy and fit for the new year (as I attempt every year) I used to really enjoy running, but recently I've been finding myself getting a bit, well, bored... any tips? I'd love to hear them!
ReplyDeleteNew to blogging! :)

Get a good music playlist sorted! Vary your routes, even running it backwards can make a difference. If you don't run outside ~ get outdoors! x
DeleteIm so glad you said about changing your lifestyle, I see so many girls talk about going on diets and tracking calories etc. I always say you have to change the way you think and the way you think about food! I'm aiming to get fit and healthy, not focusing on a size more a feeling :) but then I've been at it for years! xo
ReplyDeleteOne thing I do is NEVER count calories. I used to when I was a lot younger but it just let to obsession, a focus on my the number on the scales which wasn't healthy for me. I might do a post on that part of my life & body dysmorphia one day ~ if I am feeling brave!

Thank you! Great to meet another TIU girl :) If you want to pop me an email or send me a link to your blog I can check it out for you! Feel free to ask me any questions on twitter as well - always happy to help!
DeleteLifestyle change is what people need to do. i think weight watchers and slimming world are the only somewhat maintainable diets as they don't stray too far from the principle of healthy eating but diets just don't work in the long term. I had a curry last week but I just went the gym for longer and ate well the rest of the week. It's getting into the routine and being able to say no which people struggle with.

Exactly! It's all about moderation and a healthy lifestyle :)

Ooh I've seen a few people posting about the Squat Challenge ~ looks fun! I love my Lululemon gear, super comfy, wicks away sweat ~ I could wear the Wunder Under crops every day if I could! And if you see my instagram photos you can see I use my pink run top everytime I go running & it all washes great, no fading, no bobbles!
DeleteWelcome to TIU & to blogging! xx
