Fitness | Tone it Up Holiday Hottie Update & How I Measure Progress

Happy Sunday! I have finished my first seven days of the Tone It Up Holiday Hottie series and I thought that I would share my progress with you. This week has been a good one and I am feeling amazing today which was shown in my super fast running times this morning! I haven't ran that fast since I was about 19, which is a long time ago! Honestly I am feeling fitter than ever and I can see that my hard work is starting to pay off.

I also had some good news on Monday - I was a winner in the Tone it Up Live Pink challenge for October! I was so excited and pleased that I won, I am eagerly awaiting my prizes to arrive from the USA! Congratulations to all the other Live Pink winners as well, they are all amazing and if you are looking for some fitness motivation check them out on twitter. The Tone It Up community girls are all so inspiring and supportive, they really help to motivate, push you to workout and do your best!

I am looking forward to the final five days of the series. Two workouts a day and eating lean, clean and green! It will be tough but worth it. I am excited to see what challenges are in store for us. It's never too late to join in either, just head over to the Tone It Up page and sign up for the emails! You can also check their page everyday for the workouts. If you are looking for a healthy recipe to try I highly recommend the Pumpkin and Carrot Soup - super easy, tasty and boyfriend approved!

I also wanted to explain a bit about why I have embarked on this fitness journey and how I measure my progress. I'm not on a weight loss journey like some health and fitness bloggers are so weigh-ins and measuring are not a part of my life, nor do I want them to be. I am a healthy size and weight, I am slim and a UK size 8-10 (US 4-6). I do not want to lose weight, I simply want to tone up. When I made the decision to workout regularly I did it for my health and to improve the look of my body by toning it up. So that's how I assess my progress - by what I see in the mirror and how I feel. I have a lot more energy from working out everyday and I feel more confident in myself. This is what I want to maintain.

In the past, I weighed myself regularly and I became obsessed with numbers and that's not where I want to be. I don't think it is healthy for me. I understand that people who are on a weight loss journey need to weigh in to track their progress to make sure they are losing the right amount of weight and ensure their workouts and eating are effective. When I feel good in myself, I feel strong, confident and I can rock those skinny jeans - that's how I measure success!

I also just wanted to mention that Cat from Outside beauty Inside Health has started her own holiday fitness challenge this week. Make sure to head over to her blog if you are interested in seeing what she is doing and give her some support! Supporting each other in fitness endeavours really makes a difference, especially when you are working out by yourself.

I hope you have all had a good week and let me know what you do to keep fit. For daily fitness updates and general motivation from me be sure to follow me on twitter and instagram - jaynebecca on both!

  1. What a lovely post! Thank you so much for the mention! You are o e of my fitspirations, when I see you Instagram and tweets about working out it inspires me to when I'm not feeling up for it. I workout to lose weight although I don't weight myself. I sometime take measurements but I much prefers assuring my success by the miles I've ran or trying to beat my quickest or longest run. It's a much more healthy target to focus on and I lose weight as a consequence, so it's win win! It's much easier to try and better yourself and your performance than concentrate on the scale :D

All the est for week two lovely, look forward to seeing how you do xxxx

    1. Aw thanks so much Cat! This means a lot to me :) I think it is good to focus on being healthy and being fitter rather than focusing on numbers. Losing weight will come with it as you get fitter! And don't forget - muscle weighs heavier than fat! xx

  2. Great post Jayne. Congratulations on the win. I understand what you mean about not training to lose weight but just to look better and be stronger, that used to be my reason for training. Unfortunately I've slipped off the wagon but today I did visit a new gym which is opening in December and think I will sign up. I've seen the Tone It Up twitter, you and Cat have inspired me to have a good look into it. Good luck to you both xxx

  5. Glad that it's going well! I find working out to be such a challenge - not so much the workouts, but staying motivated. I'm doing my best, but it's a struggle! :) Having a supportive community is definitely helpful. You are so right that feeling good should be the ultimate goal because in the end, you can be as tiny as you want, but still not feel good and what good is that? Keep it up!!!
