Happy Sunday girls! I hope that you have all had a great week and you are ready to take on Monday with a smile :) We are into the final few days of the Tone It Up Love Your Body challenge, I cannot believe how fast the weeks have flown by. This challenge has been great to keep me motivated through the cold months of January and February and I am certainly looking forward to going to Spring and Summer with a renewed sense of achievement. Each and everyone of you girls who check in on Twitter, Instagram and the Tone It Up Community keep me going ~ you are all so amazing!
Today I ran a 10k ~ 6.22 miles ~ in the rain! Although I didn't fancy going when I first got out of bed this morning I am so glad I did. I feel great and although I didn't break any records I did a good time and came home with no blisters again - yay! Sometimes the hardest step to take is the one out the door but it will be worth it :)
Spinning kicked my ass big time this week. We had a different instructor again and she was the best one yet. We were doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts on the bike for 45 minutes. That was 45 minutes of sweat! I loved it and I could tell I had worked hard because my legs were so sore the next day. She also explained that anyone of us in the class will have burnt between 600 and 1000 calories in that one 45 minute session. AMAZING!
I also took a couple of active rest days this week which were much needed. Don't forget that you need to listen to your body. If you need a little bit of extra sleep or have sore muscles just eat well, drink lots of water and do some stretching or yoga to help your muscles repair. Don't forget that lean protein is important for building muscles too.
For any girls out there who are focusing on the numbers on the scale I just wanted to chat about my progress and thoughts. Since I started Tone It Up in September I have only lost 2 pounds in weight however my muscles are tighter and I am more toned than I have ever been. I treated myself to a new pair of Topshop Leigh Jeans yesterday and bought them in a size 8 (US size 4). Now we all know how notorious Topshop is for sizing things small and the last time I bought the exact same jeans (different colour of course!) I got them in a size 10 (US size 6). So I have dropped a dress size but only lost 2 pounds. How?! Muscle weighs more than fat but also takes up less space. So as you tone and tighten you may not lose any weight! Go by how your clothes fit and take measurements instead of focusing on the number on the scales :) I'll take fit over skinny any day of the week!

ReplyDeleteI really need to start exercising more, but with working and going to uni full time, it's hard to fit it all in!

Yes it can be hard! That's why I make sure to get myself out of bed early, if you get your workout in first thing it is done for the day then! x
DeleteWell done on your progress Jayne!! I've booked myself into two spinning classes this coming week - hopefully I don't whimp out of it again I need the cardio in my life and I know how awesome it is for fitness! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you bought up the weight-loss thing with muscle and dropping dress sizes - I've been trying to tell my friends this for ages but they just don't get it!

Thanks Rhiannon! You must go to spin - it is such a good workout! Hard but good, you'll feel amazing afterwards! Just be sure to stretch properly at the end! I know a lot of people don't seem to understand which is why I bought it up. I think it is important to realise that the number on the scale doesn't mean much when you are toning up x
DeleteYou got to love what muscle does. I've lost 10lb since september. :) Made up! Sounds like youve had a good week. I'm gonna have to focus on uni work for the next 6 weeks so less gym time. :(
