Recipe | Overnight Oats

Breakfast is the most essential meal of the day in my mind. It gets your metabolism started again after fasting through the night, hence 'Break the Fast'. It is also proven that by eating breakfast you control your appetite throughout the day as it stabilises your hunger and cravings throughout the day. One super easy breakfast recipe I have been loving lately is Overnight Oats. It takes less than five minutes to mix the ingredients together in the evening then you simply pop it in the fridge and viola ready by morning! I love it because I can do my morning workout and then quickly pull this out of the fridge, add a topping and you are good to go.

Ingredients: (My recipe uses 'cups' but I have converted it to grams/ ml for you if you don't have cups.)

  • 2/3 cup (160ml) almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) organic rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of Greek yoghurt (I use fat free)
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon

Method:

  • The night before you plan to eat your oats, mix all the ingredients together and seal in an airtight container.
  • Pop in the fridge overnight.
  • Enjoy the next morning!

You can add pretty much anything as your topping. One of my favourites is a drizzle of agave nectar and an apple, very autumnal! Raspberries and strawberries also work well but you can use pretty much any fruit. This is one of my favourite breakfasts at the moment as it is quick, easy and healthy. It is a great way to start your day and it keeps you going through the morning.

What is your favourite breakfast?

  6. Oh my God that sounds yummy! That's actually a really convenient thing to make in a dorm where the only appliance you have is pretty much a fridge (like mine!)
